A conversation about the brave new world of educational technology, with panelists Alec Whitters (Higher Learning Technologies), Michael Eynon-Lynch (PearDeck), Dan Smith (ACT), and Adam Ingersoll (Compass) on reshaping curriculum with technology. Moderated by Shawn Cornally.

About Shawn Cornally (moderator)

Shawn Cornally is the co-founder and CTO of Iowa BIG.

Shawn Cornally is a experimentalist dedicated to finding out how to optimize educational experiences for humans. His current experiment is Iowa BIG, a school that uses its city for a classroom, allows students to organize their time, doesn’t give grades, and demands service from all curriculum. Shawn also helps run a small farm to feed his wife, 3 kids and 2 goats.

About Alec Whitters

As a third-year dental student at the University of Iowa, Cedar Rapids native Alec Whitters found himself relying on paper flashcards to study for his board exams.

Wouldn’t it make better sense, he thought, to use his smartphone to study? When his search for an effective mobile-learning solution turned up empty, he decided to create it. And in 2012, Higher Learning Technologies was launched. Since then, HLT has grown into the market-leading platform for m-learning applications, and their products have now been used by one and a half million students in almost every country in the world. With a fast-growing suite of solutions, HLT apps deliver effective learning content where today’s students learn best: On their mobile devices.

When not exercising his passion to transform the way students learn, Alec also enjoys traveling the globe and immersing himself in local cultures, competitive and adventure sports (the more adrenaline-infused, the better), and mentoring young entrepreneurs.
