Tyondai Braxton has been described by the Washington Post as “one of the most acclaimed experimental musicians of the last decade”. Braxton has been creating music as a solo artist and with various groups, most notably his former band Battles, since the ‘90s. In 2007, Battles album Mirrors was listed as one of the year’s top ten albums by both Time and Pitchfork. As a solo artist, In 2015, Braxton released his first album in five years, HIVE1, and debuted it at the Guggenheim as a multimedia performance which included two modular synthesizers players and three percussionists on five large wooden pods. HIVE1 is a continuation of Braxton’s experimental orchestral with an unexpected electronic twist.
